I know about that. Every day we straight for different gods like glitter. It has to be in there.
SPEAKER_01I'm a fan of the pod, okay? I've listened to the pod. Know your limit.
SPEAKER_00Uh clip it.
SPEAKER_01Alright. All right. I kind of got it figured out.
SPEAKER_00Let's go. Welcome back to Know Your Limits, the only podcast ensured to have a good time. We're back for season two, the sequel, The Return of the Dimwits, if you will. I'm Andrew Porter, co-host of Know Your Limits and Reform Dirtbag. Joining me as always is the other half of Know Your Limits, co-host Zachary Miller. His hair is hiding all of his big ideas. What's going on, Zachary?
SPEAKER_01Not much, dude. How you been?
SPEAKER_00I'm doing great. I'm doing great. It's been too long. It's been too long. We need to get back on the sticks. Back on the ones and twos, if you will.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Joel's been waiting for this.
SPEAKER_00I sorry, Joel. All right. So what do we got? What do we got this episode? What are we talking about?
SPEAKER_01I thought you were going to tell me what we were talking about.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, we're talking 50. 50's a big number. So uh we're going to be talking about uh 50 years in business, 50 pounds lost, 50th annual red rose run, uh, big eye conference takeaways, local food plans, what's next? I got a big list.
SPEAKER_01Wow, that's about 50 things.
SPEAKER_00It's it might be. It might be.
SPEAKER_01We only have 50 minutes.
SPEAKER_00That's true. Let's get started. Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_01For sure.
SPEAKER_00Perfect. So what's first on the docket? All right.
SPEAKER_01Well, the intro is first. I think we're going to talk about the Big Eye Conference.
SPEAKER_00That sounds good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right, cool.
SPEAKER_01So we're going to do a little uh recap of that. This is an event that we went to. I'll let you kind of explain what it was. Anything you wanted to talk about first about the Big Eye Conference, maybe your experience or maybe just an overview of what it is?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure. So the Big Eye Conference is a legislative conference held in Washington, D.C., where the um independent agencies uh around the nation go down to talk to the representatives about what is affecting them and what they want to do, um, what they want to change. Uh we were invited by IANB um to do kind of a social media collaboration and social media takeover. It was a ton of fun. That it was. Yeah. Uh it was April 22nd and 23rd. Um we made a couple videos for them. We got, you know, uh it was plus 6,500 views on those four videos, so that was a lot of fun uh making the content, seeing that uh people matter to Andrew. People seem to like it.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't it was nice. I think the wigs really uh great.
SPEAKER_00You know what? Grab my wig.
SPEAKER_01You have it?
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01Here you go.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so we met with Lloyd Smucker, uh local rep in the uh Canon building about third-party legislation essentially um driving up prices uh around the industry because people are being uh financed to to sue insurance companies and then finding out that they are uh giving up their rights during these processes and um really not coming out uh as well as they thought they were uh when they were contacted initially by these people. Um so we met with Lloyd Smugger in the Canon building. That was a bunch of fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was a good meeting. Um it was nice to have him there, and he also had two or three assistants with him. Um I thought that they were very engaging.
SPEAKER_00Uh they were super engaging. He was the only representative that actually was in the met with one. Yeah, we met with a couple of uh representative aides, um, but Lloyd was the only one that actually showed up for ours. Nothing against the other reps. Um uh they're very busy, obviously, but it was really nice to actually meet him in person and it was a nice addition.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and made that one memorable.
SPEAKER_00And uh he's an FM alumni, yeah, was right here in Lancaster, so that was kind of cool. We got to talk about you know Zengari's um old haunts uh back in his Lancaster days. So shout out Lloyd Smucker. Um what else? What about the conference? Yeah, what did you well what what stood out for you?
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, it was we had great weather down there, that was awesome. I mean, it was nice meeting people from all over the country.
SPEAKER_00It was yeah, we met some people from Florida, some people from California.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think next year we'll probably take another day or two to explore the area a little bit more. I know there was baseball games going on, hockey games. It was actually a great time of year for sports, but we didn't get to do any of that.
SPEAKER_00No, no. Uh well, luckily we got out of there right before there was like a double header for the Nationals Braves.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. We're playing. And well, it was the Braves, and then the hockey game was we missed that, but hey, next year we'll we'll do a little, and that's more on the personal side, not necessarily the conference side. So I'm being selfish, but you need to be.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, and um, I think it went really well with IA and B. Um, we actually connected with them after that uh to meet with a company called Media Twist uh about growing this um in an organic way that's gonna help, you know, not only our agency but independent agencies moving forward, um, how to get their reach out there. So that was really cool. Uh we got to meet with uh Jason Jen and Karen from IA and B and then uh Chris Kurtz through Media Twist. Uh they had a lot of information for us.
SPEAKER_01Turns out all you need is a wig.
SPEAKER_00Turns out. And a gabble. All right. Well, you know, speaking of growth in social media, let's talk about 50 years of growth in Hinkle.
SPEAKER_01So we're celebrating our 50th year in business. Well, we just completed the 50th year in business. Yes. So now we're saying that we have been in business for 50 years. That was always hard to figure out. Do you say it while it's while you're in the 50th year? Or do you say it after you're done? So we just did it when we were done. So we've completed 50 years.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you really never know. It's kind of like 50th year, 50 years running. Who knows? Goes into a goosebump story. No, that's X-Files, but nice track. Oh, was it? Yeah. It actually was X-Files? That's the X-Files song.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. It just reminded me of something like Are You Afraid of the Dark or something like that?
SPEAKER_00Well, that makes sense. That makes sense. Um, Zach, give us kind of a rundown on Hinkle, the history, how we came here today.
SPEAKER_01Well, it seems like the last 50 years have gone by so fast. It's gone by really fast for me. I've been here for 36. How about you?
SPEAKER_00I've been here for five.
SPEAKER_01Oh, no, no. I mean Oh, 36.
SPEAKER_0036. 36. Jeez. Wow.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, my grandfather started Hinkle Insurance, so that's why it's near and dear to me. You know, my grandfather, he's just the best guy ever would do anything for anybody. So it's really cool to be able to work here and carry on his legacy. So thank you, Pop, for uh all the stuff you've done for everybody over the years and also giving me a job.
SPEAKER_00Well, I don't think that he hired you.
SPEAKER_01No, he didn't. I had to wait until he was gone.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. He knew what was up. That's a big uh big shout-out to Tim.
SPEAKER_01Building the platform.
SPEAKER_00Yes, we appreciate it.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, it started out of our his house at the time on Skyline Drive in Grandview Heights. That is the house that I grew up in. A lot of people in the area know that house from block party Friday nights or just just about anything. My parents are very um they like to entertain. They're entertainers, they like to cook, they like to provide, they like people to be happy. So I'd say just about everybody has been to that house on Skyline Drive.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, can confirm good people. I've been to a block party or two, and uh it's a fun, fun time to know that that house was where Hinkel started and now that's where I'm working, uh, is kind of a cool little thing. I can't imagine what it was like writing insurance in 1976.
SPEAKER_01No, I well, I think like there's probably a lot less chaos. Like now there's technology which is good and bad because it is good for probably workflow, but it's bad for connectivity all the time. Not that we don't want to be connected, but it's just, you know, it's just brings on more work. Yeah, I'd say. I think back then it was pretty straightforward. There's paper applications, fill in a couple of things, here's your rate right on paper, but it was more so, I think, a personal experience, which we try to keep here. But you know, he was going to people's homes while they were having dinner and stuff like that. That's when he would typically be working, I think.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that's like a that was a regular thing. I remember my grandparents talking about the insurance guy would come over for dinner once a year, and every time that he left, they had more insurance than they had before. Um so yeah, that's definitely changed. It's a more technology, more problems kind of thing. Um, some things are easier, some things are more difficult. It's definitely changed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And not that we won't come over for dinner.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I'll definitely come over for dinner. Just nobody invites me anymore. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Invite us for dinner, we'll come.
SPEAKER_00I know. Well, they get to know me and then I don't get the invite.
unknownThat's what it is.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's basically I mean, that's the gist of what's going on of the history. I mean, there's not too much history other than you know, it started in the house. Uh, they've had different locations over the years, some in Lidditz, one right across from Crusoe's in Manham Township there. That's where I remember my mom going to work, I believe, when I was in middle school and before then.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01I think when I was envision in Envisions at uh Schaefer, she was working there. So it wasn't over here at the barn. Okay. Yeah, it's really cool to be working at a family business, and not a lot of businesses stay open for 50 years.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that is pretty cool. And uh also have it be run by the same people, the same family, um, is a testament to you know their perseverance. So that brings us to today, 50 years later. What are we doing? What are we doing to celebrate? We should be celebrating.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna cut a rug.
SPEAKER_00Cut a rug.
SPEAKER_01Well, we're gonna cut a ribbon. We're gonna cut a rug, rug at the ribbon cutting, I think. Um, we're doing a ribbon cutting next week on June 3rd, and that will basically be in celebration of our 50th year in business. My grandparents will be there, so that'll be cool for them uh to see where the business has gone. You know, Anne's Anne worked here until last year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So she hasn't been gone that long. I feel like my grandfather retired in 2008.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I mean, I still we still get calls asking where Anne is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00To this day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. A lot of people don't want to talk to us, they want to talk to Anne. But we are the new Anne. Um that's what we've been telling people.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Uh, whether you like it or not, that is the way it is.
SPEAKER_00No, but the uh the ribbon cutting should be a bunch of fun. Um, I think it's being put on by Hinkle and the Lancaster Chamber.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_01They put on ribbon cuttings for businesses who are opening or in business a long time in the Lancaster community. So they will be bringing the ribbon and bringing the scissors. Nice and bringing some employees to join us that day. Cool, cool. Maybe we'll see Justin. Yeah. Maybe. I hope so. He was invited. We'll have Scoops food truck there. You know, they're uh they are a um insured of us and a good friend. So they'll be there on site. We'll have a bunch of other businesses on site and some friends and family, and it'll be a fun day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think we even ha might have one or two customers. Uh don't hold me to it, but we might even have one or two customers that have been clients of Hinkle since Hinkle opened. Yeah, we do. Yeah. So that should be that's really cool.
SPEAKER_01Uh we reached out to them to ask them to join us that day. Um I'm not sure if they can yet or not, but uh, we want to say thank you in any way we can for sure to those people.
SPEAKER_00I think we got at least one RSVP yes on that. Hopefully. We hope to see whoever, you know, whoever wants to come out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Come celebrate. It'll be a good day. It's a good thing to celebrate, and uh I look forward to it. Yeah. Sweet. So do you won do we want to go on to the next 50 thing?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure. 50 up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and now 50 down. Perfect. Um, why don't you explain how you lost 50 pounds this year? Because I saw somebody come in the office the other day and they looked straight at you and they were standing a foot away from you, and they said, Does Andrew still work here? And I turned around and you were like, I'm Andrew.
SPEAKER_00He's like, Holy smokes, boy! Yeah, that did happen. Um, I didn't think I looked that different, but I do see pictures of myself from a year ago.
SPEAKER_01You've also had different haircuts, too.
SPEAKER_00That's true. That's true. Long hair, short hair, curly hair, straight hair, whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. So I think that that doesn't help. Your glasses changer as well.
SPEAKER_00I changed the glasses. Yeah, you're you don't even recognize me, to be completely honest sometimes.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Exactly. You come here with one shirt on, you leave with a different one on.
SPEAKER_00Well, really, the biggest reason, Zach, is uh I I found myself a beautiful girlfriend, and I was tired of people looking at us uh constantly and being like, what? Um that hasn't changed. That guy must have a lot of money. Yeah, that hasn't changed. So I'm still getting those looks, but uh, we are 50 pounds down. Um, it has been uh through essentially pure um determination, determination, frustration, and and stubbornness. I'm running about uh, you know, five to ten uh kilometers a day. Uh I'm in the sauna. Um I'm doing the work.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's really just you know, put up or shut up. You're just running every day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's all you need to do. Yeah. So I mean you change your diet a little bit, but not much. No, not really if you if you just put your mind to it and do it. I ate you could look like Andrew.
SPEAKER_00I did eat six slices of extra cheese pizza from Dominion last night at nine o'clock in the at night. See?
SPEAKER_01You can do it.
SPEAKER_00You still lost fifty. You can still do it. Um, it's what's 49 now, but uh Well. And then follow along because season three, I'll gain it all back.
SPEAKER_01Yes. For sure. Season three, the road to three hundred pounds.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes. I mean, we don't uh we don't have to harp on that too much.
SPEAKER_01Um, it's just congratulations. It's hard to work. Everybody in America is trying to lose weight at all times.
SPEAKER_00So you you you're one of the few that have yeah, we're Zempy free, you know, no Zempi over here. Um no Zempic. No Zempic, exactly. So that's 50 years in business, that's 50 pounds down. We're big on milestones here. Um speaking of milestones, we've got five miles coming up at the 50th annual Red Rose Run.
SPEAKER_01The Red Rose Run. I will be there. You will be there. I will be there. We have a group of, I don't know if anybody else in the office can make it, but we have a group of people that will be out there supporting Hinkle and the Red Rose Run and all it's about.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we got a little sub-team uh of Hinkle runners. Um uh they're gonna be sporting uh Hinkle race jerseys along with thousands of people in Lancaster probably showing up uh to do this. I've done this uh run twice before. Have you ever run this one?
SPEAKER_01No, I've never done this.
SPEAKER_00It's not bad.
SPEAKER_01I just know the streets and I know that the last half two miles is straight on an uphill incline.
SPEAKER_00That is very true.
SPEAKER_01Which I don't like inclines when I'm running. I know it's good for you, but a straight one you can pace yourself, maybe, but we're we'll be fine.
SPEAKER_00You'll be alright. Yeah, are you shooting for a time?
SPEAKER_01I was trying to figure out what a good time would be. I don't know, 50 minutes? Okay, that's not bad. I just I feel like I could push through a 5k, but I know five miles is only 1.8 miles more than that, but it's still a lot.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. 1.8 miles is not a short distance.
SPEAKER_01No. No, no, so that's really all I've ever run before. So that's all I kind of I've run five miles by myself, but not in like a race setting.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's where it gets hairy too, because you get it surrounded by other people. You start running faster than you.
SPEAKER_01Well, I always do run faster in races than I do when I'm by myself. It's probably the excitement of that and just the you you're trying to press past other people that you're running next to or whatever. But honestly, at the end of the race against racism the last year, I was out for like two minutes, breathing heavy.
SPEAKER_00Weren't you like getting over something too?
SPEAKER_01No, two years ago. Oh, okay. Because I didn't do this year.
SPEAKER_00No, I thought the last year you were just getting over something. Or the last time that you ran, you were just getting who knows? I'm shooting for I'm shooting for 40 minutes. I think I just woke up. Okay, that's what it was. I'm shooting for 40 minutes. I'd be happy with 45, but I'm just gonna be happy to be there. So that'll be a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think a good goal would be just to complete the race.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I would like to not have to stop running. That'd be good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's actually a good goal instead of uh, you know, a time. But yeah, it'd be great to have a solid time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I don't even know what that would be. I'd say uh under an hour will be good.
SPEAKER_00Finishing is is good, yeah, for sure. Um, quick shout out to Treadhouse, they're gonna be out there with the team. Uh quick shout out to Common Running, they're also gonna be out there with the team. Um, and uh the logo itself was actually designed um by the same people who did our rebrand, Fox Duck. Um Wes is over there doing uh amazing things. Uh they have a couple uh hats, a couple t-shirts um uh with uh uh some signature logos on them that I'm definitely gonna have to pick up.
SPEAKER_01Can you get those at Fox Duck or?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I actually stopped back uh Saturday when we went to market. Oh, did you? Yeah, they have two separate running hats. Oh, so stop there. Yeah, for sure. Check them out.
SPEAKER_01Stop there and get your gear.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they are located uh on right next to market, and I believe their address is probably King Street, though.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_00So they got the double end.
SPEAKER_01It's right across from the uh South County Brewing, which was the press room.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, next to next to Passenger.
SPEAKER_01So stop and say hi to Wes, get your hats and shirts and all that gear.
SPEAKER_0050 years, 50 pounds, 50, 5.0 miles. What else is there?
SPEAKER_01Not sure. That's a lot. But uh looks like we have some ice cream reviews coming up. I'm hoping so. Yummy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so uh that's gonna be um that's gonna be our call to action today. So if you hear this episode, let us know where we should be reviewing our ice creams.
SPEAKER_01Um or food. We'll do food too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'll eat anything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll eat it. Well stick to food places, please.
SPEAKER_00Just let me know. Um if you have any ideas, we were throwing around, clip it. Uh we were throwing around uh doing a 5k ending at a uh ice cream uh parlor, uh those kind of things. So any kind of format that you think would be fun uh or you'd like to see, let us know. Any restaurants, uh any ice cream places that you uh want us to uh give an honest review on, uh they're gonna get a 10, just so you know. But uh let us know.
SPEAKER_01Unless they're not open. That's when they say they're open.
SPEAKER_00You will get a nine if that's the case.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean any food places, we're open to anything. I mean uh Brad's gonna be a good person. We'll have him come with us on some of these because he would be a good uh guest person to have.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_01He brings numbies.
SPEAKER_00Who?
SPEAKER_01Brad.
SPEAKER_00Oh, numbies. Numbies. Numbers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Gotcha. It wasn't a code word for anything. Yeah, who knows?
SPEAKER_00Um I love numbies.
SPEAKER_01I haven't had numbies since Gali.
SPEAKER_00I don't even remember last time I had numbies. Um cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, cool is right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So um let yeah, let us know where we should be going. Let us know how we should be scoring. That should be exciting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm excited. We're excited to get back into this. The podcasting, the videos, the everything. We've been asked by a lot of people, and by a lot of people, I mean like probably six. It's just but nonstop.
SPEAKER_00Six people over and over again.
SPEAKER_01Every time they talk to us. So we're doing this for those six. And then hopefully it'll change to a bigger number.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, I it we're gonna try and do some shorter podcasts so that we can continue to do them on a regular basis. Um, so be on the lookout. We're gonna try and do uh Friday releases so that you guys have something to listen to over the weekend once you exhaust all of your other podcast options.
SPEAKER_01Got it, guys.
SPEAKER_00Perfect.
SPEAKER_01We'll see you next week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You know what? This is Know Your Limits, insurance, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
SPEAKER_01Adios. Peace.
